MAKEUP and REPAINTING
Even though Super Dollfie come painted (unless you buy them as "parts" or "kits"), it is perfectly ok to repaint them! Some people leave them the way they come and add real makeup to their dolls, and others remove the face paint and completely repaint their dolls.
If you wish to use real "human" makeup on your doll (on top of the default painting) you can use blush and eyeshadow, but NOT lipstick (it gets gunky on the doll.)
Volks also has special Dollfie makeup.
Here's some info on the 2 set of make-up for the SD. They are actually powder (like eye shadow or something similar), and you need to use a brush to apply it. The "Shadow" series is dull and "Shine" series is pearl metallic style. There are 6 colors per set. They also say that you should use the "make-up base" before putting powder if you want to be somewhat permanant. You should use the "Make-up remover" to remove the make-up. The makeup is not completely permanent though, and you'll probably have to periodically reapply it.
Here are the colors :
"Shadow"
SW-1 :White
SW-2 :Yellow-gold
SW-3 :Dark brown
SW-4 :Red
SW-5 :Red-orange
SW-6 :Light brown
"Shine"
Se-1 : Pink
Se-2 : White
Se-3 : Gold
Se-4 : Blue
Se-5 : Purple (lilac)
Se-6 : Green
HOW TO USE MAKEUP: (courtesy of Nat)
As translated from the instructions the Make up base,
make up remover and cosemetic sets come with respectively: Make-up Base: How-to
Use as a base coat for cosmetics for Super Dollfie.
1. First wash the body with water and let it dry completely
2. Thin the base with water and apply to the surface of the Super Dollfie. Make
sure it's not lumpy or too thick. Before you use it, try a sample in an inconspicuous
spot. When it's dry completely, use the dollfie cosmetics. When you need to
remove the base, use the Make-up remover, sold seperately.
Make-Up Remover:
How-to Use when you want to remove the cosmetics completely.
1. Apply remover on a cotton ball and wipe gently. It will remove make up and
base all together.
Cosmetic Advice by Neko no te (Cat's Paw) and Mayura How to use Shine and Shadow
cosmetics differently:
Shine type is for eyeshadow, lip gloss Shadow type is for cheek, and nose shadow
When you use a dollfie cosmetics wand, it'll pick up a lot even though you barely
dabbed it. Don't use too much.
Dollfie Cosmetics: How to
1. Put a dab on the cheek
2. Spread around
3. If it's lumpy, apply water with the wand and spread it thin. If you apply
too much, remove the water the same way. For vinyl 1/6th heads, if you rub in
too much, it will stain the vinyl. Be careful.
REPAINTING YOUR DOLL:
If you want to actually permanently remove and paint your doll, that's perfectly ok too! If you mess up you can always remove the paint and try again. (obviously you'll never be able to go back to the original paint though if you do this.)
Use acrilic paint. Most people recommend Liquitex or
Mr. Color. I prefer Mr. Color... you can get it from foreign hobby
stores and some online shops, etc. (CustomHouse
online store also carries it in their "tools" section.)
I like Mr. Color better because I feel like I have more control, and I like
the consistancy of it better. It works really nicely with Mr. Color brand thinner,
or "Mr. Retarder Mild" also by the same company. For transparent
looks, you can get just about any type of clear shiny gloss(or matte if you
prefer). mix with the paint. Most people recommendthat you not mix
paint brands.
In general, the paint will not stain your doll. Some recommend that you coat
the dolls' head in Mr. Super Clear Matte BEFORE painting with an intense color
like black to make it easier to get off later.
You can also use chalk (non-oil) pastels and real people makeup. (stay away from oily or stranger products, go for basic powders). You can use these to blush and shadow your doll's face and/or body. Another way to do this is to use an airbrush (using acrilic paint).
After you are done painting and/or blushing, coat with Mr. Super Clear matte. (at least one time. Most people say at least twice...) This protects the paint.
You can remove paint off your doll by using fingernail polish remover or paint
thinners, etc. you might want to use gentler removers like
Non-Acetone fingernail polish remover, as using something too harsh can begin
to "melt" your doll. Never leave part of your doll to "soak"
in any type of remover or paint thinner either. v. bad idea...
